The environment is our livelihood. That is why environmental protection is even anchored in the Basic Law of the Federal Republic of Germany as a national goal. Climate change is one of the most important global challenges. Due to the growing population and ever better developed infrastructure and industry, CO2 emissions, for example, continue to rise. One of the most important tasks in the coming years will be to counteract this trend. In China, the inhabitants of megacities are fighting smog. The government is promoting vehicles with alternative drive concepts.
The conservation of resources is also gaining in importance, as fossil fuels are currently still critical factors in supplying energy. However, natural resources such as oil reserves do not last forever. Renewable energies such as wind power or solar cells must become even more important. In the USA, for example, just under 74 percent of electricity in 2017 still came from fossil fuels and only about one tenth of this amount from renewable energy sources. Even though the figure in Germany is already 40 percent, there is still a lot to be done to turn energy systems around.
